HENSOLDT Integrates Avionics Suite into India’s Electric Air Taxi

by BDI Editorial Staff

The ePlane Company (Ubifly Technologies), an Indian developer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, has placed a firm order with HENSOLDT for its flagship e200X aircraft. According to HENSOLDT, the order marks a transition from joint development to series maturity, moving the avionics system into firm procurement.

Michael Groeninger, Managing Director of HENSOLDT Avionics, said, “We are proud to support ePlane in their mission to alleviate urban congestion. Our avionics are designed for the most demanding missions, and the operational profile of an eVTOL in India is the ultimate proving ground. Together, we are defining the standards for situational awareness in the Advanced Air Mobility sector.”

HENSOLDT is supplying what ePlane describes as the “digital nervous system” of the e200X, providing avionics for navigation, situational awareness and secure connectivity in dense urban airspace.

The EuroNav 7 NG digital moving map supports navigation and mission management in urban environments. CaviSight provides a visual landing aid that switches camera feeds to give the crew an augmented view during takeoff and landing.

The RF1 Smart Antenna provides cooperative traffic awareness and alerts the crew to nearby aircraft. CaviConnect establishes a secure data link between the aircraft and ground station, supporting data exchange for fleet management and health monitoring.

The EB1 Multipurpose Airborne Computer provides onboard processing for mission-critical applications and is intended to prepare the platform for future autonomous functions. HENSOLDT’s LCR100 lightweight flight data recorder supports safety, certification and operational requirements, while the SferiRec LCR 100 integration enables recording of critical flight data for operational insight and data-driven fleet management.

The order comes as ePlane reaches several programme milestones. The company has completed assembly of its full-scale prototype, bringing the e200X’s major subsystems together in a single structure for the first time.

The programme has now moved from the design stage into testing. The e200X is entering an extensive ground-test campaign ahead of flight trials and type certification with India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
