Airbus to Upgrade JetBlue A320 Fleet With Advanced Cockpit Displays

by BDI Editorial Staff

Airbus has signed an agreement with JetBlue to upgrade cockpit display systems on part of its A320 fleet. The agreement was signed at MRO Americas.

The contract includes the installation of Enhanced Electronic Instrument System (EEIS2) displays on 46 aircraft, supporting JetBlue’s continued fleet modernisation, harmonisation, and long-term operational strategy.

David Marcontell, Vice President of Technical Operations at JetBlue, stated:
“Investing in upgrades like EEIS2 is an important part of our JetForward strategy, supporting our focus on delivering reliable and caring service for our customers. Enhancements like these advanced cockpit displays help us modernize older aircraft, ensuring every aircraft remains safe, reliable, and ready to perform.”

Robin Hayes, Chairman and CEO of Airbus North America, added:
“Modernizing in-service aircraft is essential to maintaining the highest levels of efficiency and performance in an increasingly complex operating environment. Through upgrades like EEIS2, Airbus is enabling operators to invest in and integrate the latest technologies and prepare their fleets for the future. JetBlue has long been focused on operational performance and innovation, and we are proud to support the continued evolution of its fleet.”

EEIS2 replaces legacy cockpit displays with high-resolution LCD technology, improving pilot visual interface and system capabilities while establishing the technical foundation for future avionics upgrades. EEIS2 equipment is designed and supplied by Thales and integrated by Airbus.

As a prerequisite for next-generation systems aligned with the latest Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) roadmap, the upgrade enables better visualisation of information and can support advanced functions such as satellite or ground-based landing systems, as well as improved weather radar capabilities. These improvements provide pilots with clearer, more timely operational data and improved situational awareness in high-traffic airspace environments.

EEIS2 supports a more harmonised cockpit environment across fleets and creates a pathway for additional performance and operational enhancements over time.

JetBlue operates one of the largest Airbus fleets in North America, including A320 Family and A220 aircraft, and continues to invest in technologies that enhance operational efficiency and the passenger experience.
