L3Harris Ramps Up Production for Counter-Unmanned Systems

by BDI Editorial Staff

L3Harris Technologies has initiated high-volume production of its VAMPIRE counter-unmanned systems (C-UxS) at a dedicated facility in Huntsville, Alabama. The new production line directly responds to the urgent need expressed by the United States and its allies to counter the persistent drone threat that endangers military personnel and critical infrastructure.

The facility features a flexible assembly, testing, and installation area designed to integrate VAMPIRE onto ground vehicles and containerized weapon systems. The production line is engineered to adjust and increase output in response to evolving operational demand.

“We are making every effort to deploy these effective, combat-proven systems to the frontline as rapidly as possible to save lives,” said Tom Kirkland, President of Targeting and Sensor Systems, Communications & Spectrum Dominance at L3Harris. “Our newest production line combines the best talent, technology, facilities, and innovation to deliver the ultimate C-UxS solution to our customers.”

Since 2023, VAMPIRE has demonstrated its capability to detect, track, and defeat small drones during European combat operations. In 2025, L3Harris announced the expansion of its VAMPIRE family of systems to include specialized variants for land, maritime, air, and electronic warfare operations, as well as the integration of VAMPIRE aboard new defense ground vehicles.
