Northrop Grumman Continues In-Space Servicing Leadership with Second Mission Extension Vehicle Undocking

by BDI Editorial Staff

Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has marked another milestone in satellite servicing with the undocking of one of its Mission Extension Vehicles (MEVs) from the Optus D3 satellite, demonstrating the company’s in-space servicing capabilities and approach to extending the operational life of satellites.

The two Mission Extension Vehicles have demonstrated satellite life-extension capabilities through servicing missions since 2020. The latest undocking highlights the continued use of on-orbit servicing to support satellites beyond traditional replacement approaches.

Northrop Grumman’s in-space satellite servicing capabilities are also being expanded through technologies including the recently launched Mission Robotic Vehicle (MRV) and Mission Extension Pods (MEPs). The company said these developments support a shift towards more resilient and sustainable space infrastructure.

The MEV missions are designed to extend the operational life of essential space assets through routine servicing. Northrop Grumman continues to develop and provide technologies for satellite servicing based on decades of investment and experience in space systems.
