Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces have agreed on the serial procurement of more than 100 Patria TREMOS mortar systems, with an option for hundreds of additional systems. Deliveries are scheduled to begin this year and continue through 2028.
The system was developed in cooperation with the Finnish Army and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command to improve the mobility and operational effectiveness of heavy mortars.
Following the delivery of a pre-series batch to the Finnish Army in 2025, Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces have now moved forward with serial production of the system.
Patria TREMOS Designed for Greater Mobility
Patria describes TREMOS as a mobile version of the traditional mortar system. Its advanced recoil technology allows the mortar to be integrated with a wide range of vehicle platforms while providing improved mobility, firepower and accuracy.
The system can use in-service barrels and breeches, allowing operators to continue using existing ammunition and ballistic tables. According to Patria, this can simplify training, operations and logistics.
Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Defence and Weapon Systems business area, said TREMOS was developed to address the mobility requirements of modern warfare.
He also said Finland’s role as the launch customer represents an important milestone for Patria’s weapon systems business and provides a foundation for potential international demand for the system.
Finnish Production and Industrial Impact
Patria TREMOS is developed and manufactured in Finland, supporting the country’s security of supply and the availability of critical defence capabilities.
The systems covered by the serial procurement will be manufactured at Patria’s production facilities in Finland, with the company also using a network of dozens of suppliers.
Patria estimates that the agreement will generate an employment impact of approximately 130 person-years of work.
The procurement marks the next stage in the development of the TREMOS system following its initial delivery to the Finnish Army and establishes Finland as the launch customer for the weapon system.
