Leonardo DRS has been awarded contracts worth a total of $96 million to provide critical electronics hardware for the MK 41 Vertical Launching System (VLS).
The MK 41 VLS is used by the U.S. Navy and 14 allied navies worldwide. The latest contract awards will support the continued operation and readiness of the shipborne missile launching system.
Electronics Hardware for MK 41 VLS
Under the contracts, Leonardo DRS will provide several types of electronics hardware, including Programmable Power Supplies (PPS), Launch Control Units (LCU), and Module Transformer Platform/System Transformer Platform (MTP/STP) systems.
These components are deployed aboard U.S. Navy destroyers and vessels operated by allied naval forces. They support key functions required for shipboard missile operations.
The MK 41 VLS is one of the world’s widely deployed naval missile launching systems. Its architecture supports multiple missile types, allowing different missiles to be launched from a common system.
Supporting Naval System Readiness
Leonardo DRS supplies ruggedized electronics and power systems for the MK 41 VLS. The company’s hardware is designed to provide reliable performance in demanding naval operating environments and support the readiness and effectiveness of the launcher system.
“Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics is proud to continue providing the U.S. Navy and allied partners with critical MK 41 vertical launch system electronics hardware, supporting the program for over 15 years,” said Cari Ossenfort, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics business unit.
Contract Work in the United States
The contract awards were issued on July 22-23, 2026, as option modifications to multiple-year contracts.
Work will be carried out at Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics production facilities in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and Largo, Florida.
Leonardo DRS said it continues to work with the U.S. Navy and allied partners on the MK 41 VLS programme and remains a provider of weapons-system hardware for surface ships.
