The Netherlands has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Sweden regarding the potential acquisition of a Saab GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft.
The parties have not yet signed a contract, and Saab has not received an order from the Netherlands at this stage. The company said it is awaiting the next steps in the procurement process.
Saab President and CEO Micael Johansson welcomed the announcement, saying GlobalEye would provide enhanced situational awareness and early warning capabilities across multiple operational domains.
He said the system would support the Netherlands in detecting threats earlier, responding faster and strengthening both national and collective defence, while also contributing to NATO’s ability to operate in a complex security environment.
GlobalEye Multi-Domain Surveillance Capability
GlobalEye is a multi-domain AEW&C system equipped with active and passive sensors designed to provide long-range detection and identification of objects in the air, at sea and over land.
The system provides real-time information to air forces, armies and navies, supporting situational awareness across surrounding areas and enabling the early detection of potential threats.
The Netherlands’ Letter of Intent represents an intention to procure the GlobalEye system, while the next stages of the procurement process will determine whether a formal contract and Saab order will follow.
